Much of the semaphore signalling when removed during the resignalling was passed on to heritage railways. But I can't say what happened to the box. I understood it had been left standing because it also formed a relay room for the new signals.

Taken down a few weeks ago.
Has it been resited or demolished?
In view of trentside's comments, were you talking about the old box on the platform or the temporary 'portacabin' style box in the yard behind? If the latter then presumably control has gone to Cardiff as planned and the temporary box removed?

Used to be an amazing box - traditional electric token with lever frame - then a panel added in for Stormstown - then another SSI type panel for the Aberdare branch loops installed around 2002. Talk about a range of technologies.?

Worked it as a trainee under supervision of course in 1979. No Aberdare passenger servcie then , but a lot of coal / Phurnacite works traffic.

Ignore my previous comment, the old box at Abercynon has indeed gone.

I got it confused with the larger structure at Pontypridd which is still in situ boarded up.

Sorry for the confusion!
