Abellio Greater Anglia First Class service

Im making a First Class trip from London Liverpool Street to Great Yarmouth on the 12:30 in July on a Saturday and would like to know what they offer in First Class.

Free tea, coffee, orange juice or water. Plain crisps and small biscuits. You'll have to go to the buffet to get them, show your first class ticket before ordering. The tea and coffee is a decent size cup.

Always empty? That gives the wrong impression. At weekends advance first tickets are very popular to London for day trips. Not so busy in the other direction but not what I'd call empty, unless you are on the 06.00 LST-NRW.

A bit late to this thread, but I'll just add that WiFi is one of the first class freebies provided too.

I'd also add that staff appear to be fine with passengers asking (within reason) for multiple goes at the complimentary refreshments - it's hardly a case of one drink OR another! In fact, I was recently asked to "take a few of the biscuits and crisps - we have too many" (they did - the baskets and boxes were overflowing!) - unfortunately, I'd just had lunch!

Went to Norwich and came back mid day in first a couple of weeks ago. 1st was comfortably loaded rather than empty

I was impressed when on a 1st Travelcard a few weeks ago, it was possible to get a drink & biscuit from the buffet on departure from Stratford heading towards Liverpool Street!

I was very impressed when approaching Norwich, I was able to get a tea for my onward connection !

A bit late to this thread, but I'll just add that WiFi is one of the first class freebies provided too.

Do I go to the buffet to get a code for the WiFi?

Nope, you simply take your seat in first class and connect to the Greater Anglia hotspot. If you've never used their WiFi before you'll have to register a few personal details, but that's all.

This isn't related to your journey but it does fall under the category of Abellio Greater Anglia First Class service, anyway i live on the Norwich-Cambridge line which are served by Class 170/2 Turbostars and these also provide a First class service which i think on this line is absolutely pointless, the customer is paying a little bit more for a slightly larger seat and 95% of their journeys on this line it's always empty from Norwich right through to Cambridge.

I personally think that the First class section should be ripped out of these and replaced with a Standard class section because a lot more seats would be inserted into the units and would help on the slightly busier services later in the day.

They are actually sometimes remarkably heavily used, especially at peak times with people travelling to and from London. Also quite a few people with advances use them.

And as the poster above me has pointed out they do get used elsewhere, specifically the East Suffolk where first is very often full.
