Hi
Not 100% sure if this is the right place for this message, so sorry if it is not. Can anyone explain the difference between a couple of ABC Guides? I have the ABC Rail Guide which is like my old Motive Power combined, and I see now that Ian Allan have released a new Traction Recognition volume, but also announced 2 other Colin Marden titles, Diesel & Electric Loco Recognition and The Complete UK Modern Locomotive Directory. I am struggling to tell what each book has in it, and would welcome any clarity anyone can shed.

It seems to me that Traction Recognition has all current classes of all engine types running, sort of like Rail Guide but without the numbers! But then the newly announced Diesel & Electric Loco Recognition also seems to do that, but excluding DMU/EMUs etc - and adding, I think, details for all loco types that have run on UK rails since introduction. Is that right? So, as far as the currently running units go, this would be repetition in each book?

Then the Modern Loco Directory seems to be the same thing as the Diesel & Electric Loco Recognition title? Basically seems to have details of every class to have run on UK rails. I don't see how these differ - apart from price.

I am keen to get a loco directory sort of book that adds more detail than teh simple ABC spotter guide, but can't fathom which to get.

Thanks for any comments
Richard
