Abbreviations

I am just about to accept a job as a Customer Sales Advisor with GWR and I have found this place to be a gold mine of information and advice. One thing I get very confused about are the amount of abbreviations. Is there a page or a site I could look at which might have some of the abbreviations listed. I would feel an idiot if I had to keep asking what every abbreviation meant! Thank you.

Nobody will think you're daft for asking what things mean on the job! You should be told what the important ones are in your training.

What sort of abbreviations do you have in mind? There's a lot of information on http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk (declaration: my site). Start with the 'stations' and 'CRS' areas for things that I think will be immediately appropriate.

When you undergo your induction, you should be given a copy of the GWR 'jargon and acronym buster' which explains all the abbreviations and jargon that you might come across. There's no expectation that you should understand these before starting, so don't worry about it too much.

We used to talk a lot about TLAs. It took me a while to work out it stood for three-letter abbreviation.

As always, there'plenty of people on here from different parts of the insurty. I'm a track engineer. There's drivers, guards, signalling engineers, operations people, loads of people from across the industry. Anything you can't find or want explaining further, do a quick search on here first as it may well have been asked already, but if not, you'll get some great advice here.
