Cost - for a start. A single track dead-end branch off an electrified main line is a very different beast from a double track one (with freight) linking 2 electrified mainlines. That’s before you get on to the fact that, IIRC, major alterations would be required to run 4 car trains on the Marston Vale and we don’t have 2 car ac emus any more. On top of all that - the minute EWR moved from pipe dream to possibility (let alone likelihood) that effectively put a freeze on the status quo until decisions were (are?) made on what that will require.

Marston Vale is part of East West Rail, and will be upgraded as part of East West Rail, which is part way through the planning process.

Nothing, there just isn't room nor any space to expand it. It's fine for a handful of 2 car 196s but not for the full fleet. Thanks, but was Bletchley Depot not built to maintain the Class 310 fleet (50 4-car sets), the DMUs for the Bletchley/Bedford and St Albans Abbey branches, and some of...

Yes I am excited for the cross country type line, Oxford to Cambridge via Bedford. its what we need down here on the bottom end of the MML.
