Took my exercise today in the form of a run up to the old Butterhouse Tunnel in Diggle. A really cool (and creepy) place near the big Standedge tunnels. It was part of the old Micklehurst Loop, an old, short line between Stalybridge and Diggle. It doesn't look like the portal has been touched since it closed and the area is very overgrown, in contrast to the very active high speed lines just a few metres away. There's some more info on the old line on Wikipedia.

My question: can anyone deciper what this sign would have said? It looks like it's been sheared clean in half. The remaining letters are:

Cheers! :)
