I'm going up to glasgow from whitehaven in may for a concert, getting there is easy but getting home is a different thing
Timetable says there are various trains home on the sunday but nat/rail website says there are only 2 back to carlisle during the day
10:45 preston train (which is diverted)and 17:36 london train

Which do i believe ?:(

When in May is this?

In practice the NR version is far more likely to be accurate, because it allows for anyengineering works that may not have been confirmed or even announced when the VT/SR timetables were published.

There are engineering works north of Carlisle on the 1st of May, but otherwise there seems to be nothing of note.

It's more likely that there's 2 Whitehaven trains on a Sunday, is this the case? And that the site is only showing you the trains which connect for the Whitehaven trains?

Anyway, if the issue is the Glasgow-Carlisle section then try plugging in via Kirkconnel - that should bring up a few more trains

Take it, it is not an event at the SECC, as there are none on any Sundays in May

Sunday 22 May
Route closed via Lockerbie
Bus service between Glasgow and Carlisle (extending to Oxenholme)

There are however services via Kilmarnock, so expect these to be busy
15:12 Glasgow - Carlisle 17:37

Fair point. A generic Sunday search for WTH (Whitehaven) shows only three trains per day between it and Carlisle in both directions. A search for this coming Sunday (March 20th) brings up four results for Glasgow Central to Whitehaven, the last of which uses the Caley Sleeper from Falkirk to Preston and arrives at 08:10 on the Monday!
