Is there currently a third 150/9 operating with FGW? Whilst travelling on the 1554 Bristol to Cardiff on 158952 this afternoon, having just departed Temple Meads, I saw it head towards Temple Meads. I noticed it had rather bizarre carriage numbers and there were no passenger on it as far as I'm aware. I also cannot find any workings on Real Time Trains. Maybe it was 150921 or 150927 and my eyes have just gone! But I'm sure it's a hybrid.

Also, the half of ATW 158823 which was parked against the buffers just outside Temple Meads is now gone. Where has it gone to? In fact, why was it taken there in the first place?

Dont know if there is a 3rd one but both 150921 and 927 are hybrids anyway with a 150/2 coach in between the 2 150/1 carriages.

It was taken there because its mate was having accident damage repaired in the shed, the one outside was the undamaged coach.

That was 150001 I believe. 150001 and 150002 have swapped between Reading and St. Phillips Marsh depots today, I imagine they have been having some work undertaken at SPM. 150002 must have been finished with and was swapped 150001 to undergo whatever work it is.

Saw 150001 parked just west of Didcot on the relief lines this afternoon as we zipped past.

They were quick then as I last had 002 last Thursday, running as limp as usual.

It could have been the other way round, but I know 150001 and 150002 did swap SPM-Reading today.

Speaking of 150s why did fgw refurbish the silverlink units differently to the lm units?
I understand toilets were done on the lm units but poles remained silver whereas the silverlink units got pink poles but retained carpet walls and white doors

When did silverlink carpet the walls?

The Sliverlink units were refurbished shortly after they arrived, before the LM units arrived, by Pullman Rail at Cardiff Canton. The LM units were then refurbished when they arrived, but it was under a different contract by Chrysalis Rail at Barton Hill. I'm not sure why they chose to refurbish them like that. The Silverlink units definitely needed something done when they arrived, but they should really have gone through the second refurbishment as well as they are just horrible now, the LM units are much better, but still well below the standard of the ex-Wessex units.

It was 150001 we passed it at Keynsham working 2c18 I believe. It's currently sat at the wheel slate at St Phillips Marsh

158823 has already been discussed at great length on the Forum on the Discussion Board. See "Accident at Welshpool", the last activity being on 18th October.

It's always seemed rather limp down here in GW land, always usually the one with the problems too. 001 on the other hand has always been a good one. Apart from the previous units history, Im not sure why 002 has always been the lessor of the two - considering they've reportedly been 'standardised'.

As for each unit going to Bristol, 002 did need a visit to a wheel lathe last week, I suppose they've decided to send both for a turn on the lathes.

No I know. It wasn't these two because I know they've got the remains of 150209 and 150212 in the middle.

Ah, I see. I knew it was damaged in the crash but didn't know the one half was being repaired in Bristol. I just thought they randomly decided to dump the other undamaged half there for no apparent reason!

I realise this but I believe the other half was removed after the last activity.

As for the unknown 150, it must have been 150001 then.

Considering the time of year I expect 001 was probably in need of it too. Is there not a lathe at Reading then for the Turbos?

Surprisingly not. I guess that as the Turbos have for many years been worked on in OOC then they use the lathe there, with Bristol's experience with the Sprinters leading to the pair visiting St Phills for any additional work.

There is a few pictures and scope of the new Reading TMD on these two articles though.

Does make sense for the 150s to visit SPM for some work, as you say they have more experience with the units. The Exeter based 143s also go to SPM for attention on the wheel lathe.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but how long has 150002 been working diagrams away from the Reading area after its work at SPM? I ask because I saw it terminate with 2U20 at Cardiff Central yesterday afternoon.

Thanks.

Interesting; weirdly a staff brief was published a few weeks back with the differences between a 150/0 and a 150/1

Reading units have been coming to the marsh for wheel turning for donkey's years, particularly during leaf fall.
We regularly used to get 'borrowed' bubble cars and L4xx units on the beach line in autumn.

Thanks.

Been working away from Reading for a few days, apparently due to unit shortages due to a number of units being stopped with wheel flats.

Interesting; weirdly a staff brief was published a few weeks back with the differences between a 150/0 and a 150/1

What specifically was mentioned?

I thought that the 150/0s had been sent to BRUSH, Loughborough to (as far as possible) harmonise them to the 150/1 spec... :|
