A Stock RAT Future

Now that the D Stock Rail Adhesion Train is completed, what can we expect to happen with the A Stock RAT? Surely it will be possible to preserve a 4 car unit given its importance in London Underground history as the fastest and oldest serving underground stock. Surely there is enough space in Neasden Depot…?

I sure hope so, trouble is I've heard it has to make room for stuff coming in from Ealing Common depot something about making room for the 1992 tube stock retraction programme.

Space is required at Acton Works for a new workshop to be built for the '92 Stock upgrade.
Unfortunately there is no space in Neasden or many other depots to keep heritage units.

The 1st D Stock RAT has yet to be fully commissioned and the 2nd is still being converted.

As said in another thread, the two remaining A Stock RATs at Neasden and the strategic spare in Acton Works are very likely to go for scrap very soon.

Agreed. A huge part of Met history, probably more so than whatever steam loco they're planning to use.

The yard at Acton Works is being cleared, including the A Stock Body Spare.

The D78 RAT should be ready this year, according to the programme board papers at least.

Ealing Common isn't anything to do with 92TS Retractioning or CLIP as you said.

There's space in the sidings at Wembley Park which don't have much use as S8 stock can't use them as they're not long enough.

The sidings at Wembley Park were decommissioned and disconnected from the operational railway after the timetable change on May 21. They remain physically. connected at this time, but no movements can be signalled in or out.

Prior to the timetable change they were full every night with S7 stabling. These trains have now been accommodated at other locations.

There really isn't any space to keep an A stock (or anything else) at any location - the engineers' road currently used at Neasden is required for the D78 stock RATs.
