A railfreight thread - what future for the FOC's

Not sure how you can slag EWS/DBS off as a "scrap merchant" and then say that given that they have been the only ones to try some kind of wagonload network and won far more new to rail traffic than the others who are just in the game of largely cherry picking safe profitable trunk trainload freight from each other.

To say that EWS/DB are scrap merchants is being too kind to this company.
This company has given more work away to other rail companies in the time I have known them.
I was told by a director of EWS that Freightliner were not a threat.
Thats why coal moves from pits and ports have multiplied out of all proportion and have gone to FL, along with many drivers.
We were told that the Grand Central Railway would never happen, yet again I rest my case.
EWS/DB have shut many important goods yards up and down the country where staging and repair facilities were available.
Once these yards are shut, and the rails taken up, in the event of this much talked about recovery, they will be problems.
The only companies that win, Are Asda/ Tescos, who get prime sites for there Superstores.
