I just wanted to say thanks to the people on this forum.
I start as a trainee driver with Southern in May. Been a tense 15 months since I applied. Laser eye surgery, risk assessments regarding my height slowed it down slightly but I'm finally there.
So thanks to the people who put me at ease and gave advice. The forum is a wealth of knowledge. Use it.
To those of you waiting to hear or trying to get there, don't give up. Thank you again.

Its always refreshing to hear success stories on this forum as it too helped me secure the job a couple of years ago now.

Hi there. My first post and hope you still pick this up!

I have just had confirmation I will be invited to an assessment day and getting excited now. However, one worry is my height at 6'6". Any thoughts whether that is an issue? Hope you don't mind me asking whether you are also taller?

I'm the same height. It was highlighted at my medical. The doctor said because it wasn't a medical failure I would need a risk assessment. I was sent to a depot to sit in a couple of different trains. Had to sit, stand, climb in and out while being watched. I think it depends how your height is distributed too. I'm in proportion for my height. Some tall people are all legs, which would make it hard to sit at the controls or just plain uncomfortable.
So yeah it will mean a risk assessment for you but you should be fine.
