My no 2 son got BBB , whcih gets him into Manchester Uni for maths / psychology - he missed 2 A;s by 2 marks , - excellent result.

His friends did well too , - result !

If you have worked as hard as you could and done the best you could, then you can be proud of yourself. Nothing else could have been asked of you.

I got ABBBBC in Maths, Further Maths, Further Maths (Additional), Physics, Electronics and Chemistry, doing six subjects because I flat out refused to ditch any of my subjects. I'm a bit disappointed that I only got a B in physics though , but I'm really happy with the maths

So by my count you have 600 UCAS tariff points? Bloody hell!

Well done, although in my experience, I found that A levels were sooo soo much harder than university. Once you start university, I never found that my A level results were worth anything anymore.

I don't know of anywhere that still uses UCAS points nowadays anyway, most places now specify subjects and grades and accept otherwise on an adhoc basis.

If you start on UCAS points then you can have some people with well in excess of 1000 from doing BTEC National and other post GCSE qualifications in lieu of GCSEs in school, when universities only realistically look at A Levels and Standards / Highers. (The one's I've looked at anyway).

Also, my current employer takes into account everything back to A Levels even for post graduates, and I thought it was the other way round with A Levels being easier than university, but still, that could be because of what I studied at University, a lot of other courses are a lot easer than what I did..

Apart from the ones up here, which look at Highers (usually in a higher quantity) for most students. Minimum to Edinburgh Uni is usually AABB (but they'll consider from BBBB, don't expect to get in though)

The minimum consideration requirement for my course was BBBC, but when I was interviewed (rare up here, apparently not down south?) I had ABBCD and was asked to get another B (and I got an A, incidentally...makes up for several months of geography based hell)

What is it with places interviewing you nowerdays?

I only ever got interviewed by one place, technically two but I'll go on for that later...

University of Cambridge interviewed me, but that is to be expected...

Imperial College London didn't interview me for a course in Mathematics, but then again, this was back in 2006 when I think they were still part of the University of London, and if not, had only just split. (That makes me sound old!)

University of Hull didn't interview me at all, I just phoned up and got the place, admitedly this was for Business School and they'd take anything they could to get the tuition fees rolling into what at the time was a relatively new department.

University of Manchester had an 'informal chat' with the then Director of Studies, but I was offered (and accepted) the place there and then, it was more to see I was suitable for the course and discuss the qualifiactions and experience I already had.

Since then I've had plenty of other interviews... Not for University though, not even any practice ones from the Careers Service, they never gave me enough noitice at employers, was entertaining telling one or two of them to shove it when they did offer me intervies, don't know why but that's always strangely satisfying when so many have turned you down to turn one of them down...

British Gas was perticularly entertaining.

Ah, it's only just beginning for you then. I did linear GCSEs (apart from sciences), I am surprised about how many GCSEs are modular now.

Enjoy them Class172. I'd rather do 20 GCSE exams than 5 A level exams, and I genuinely mean that. Not that I'm trying to scare you or anything, but it's so easy in comparison.

What course is it? I applied to do Journalism, Politics, and Politics and Journalism - it meant splitting my personal statement, which was fun...

Two rejections, three offers (Strathclyde, Politics: BBC at Advanced/Higher; Edinburgh Napier, Journalism: B at Higher; Stirling, Politics and Journalism: Unconditional) and one interview...

Really pleased with my results: 3 A*s in English Language, Chemistry and Astronomy, but as you say, it's just the start for me.

Paramedic Science. Meant dual uni/employment interviews, as well as massive competition (over 1000 applicants for 30 places at my chosen Uni).
