Well Guys and girls,

It’s been a long, hard slog but this morning I received confirmation that my medical was all ok, and now the wait begins for a start date as a trainee driver with SWR.

I want to say a massive thanks to everyone on here for their advice, it’s been invaluable. It’s definately the most difficult selection process I have been involved in, and coming from a police background I’ve been through my fair share of challenging selection processes.

My advice to anyone going through the process, listen and read what the nice folk on here say and you won’t go far wrong

Well done - which depot will you be working out of?

PS - Which force - if you can say?!

Cheers,

I will be working out of Wimbledon. I started off in the Met, but found myself working for another law enforcement agency after a few years.

Well done on passing your medical. I have mine on Friday afternoon and if I pass I believe I will also be operating out of Wimbledon (if all goes well). What does the medical entail?

Hope all goes well MJ.

Have they earmarked you for a potential course date yet?

The medical is pretty much what you have already read on here. All the usual, height, weight, eyesight (corrected and uncorrected if you wear contacts/glasses). Co-ordination and balance, ECG, hearing test and of course a drugs test.

Because I have to give 4 weeks notice to my current employer, I was told that I would be going on a course due to start in June (pending a successful medical) as I would not have the time to start the course in May. Have you been given a course date?

Well done Jay. I’m due to start at the end of this month and have my medical next week. Silly question but what is the typical dress code for the medical?

Same here, the May course was cutting it too fine, so I’ve been offered the course starting in June. Just waiting for the contract to arrive.

Pudsey I went straight from work so I was in smart trousers and a shirt. My personal opinion is go smart, maybe lose the tie but ultimately you are still looking to make an impression. Like I say purely my opinion, others may think differently.

Smart casual is fine. The doctor won't care what you are wearing, and you will have to take your top off anyway for the ECG, so being too formal with suit / tie etc just gets in the way.

I have passed my medical today, not had the confirmation from recruitment yet obviously, but have you been given a start date for Wimbledon?

Congrats MJ, I was given the date of a course starting 4th June, I’m still awaiting the contract though to confirm.

O.k thanks. I'm eager to find out as my current notice period is 4 weeks! Can't hand my notice in though until I receive a contract

Yes just starting to look, again it's difficult to secure anything until I have that contract..I'll be renting a room initially.
