A great day out

Hi there,

I live in Sheffield and i wanted to know on a place(s) to go for a great journey or great place for train.

I didnt want to spend over £25 and I dont mind booking in advance.

Can anyone help?

You've probably already done it but the train from Sheffield which goes through the Hope, Edale and Chinley provides nice views.. Stunningly beautiful and should only cost just over £5 for a day return to either of those stations.. It is one of the most beautiful areas of the "dark" Peak District.

East Midlands Round Robin or Lincolnshire Day Ranger?

Edit: On Calculation the latter will require a ticket to Nottingham/Lincoln so will probably cost a little more than £25

From Wakefield or Doncaster you can get Advance tickets to Workington from £11 single. These allow you to travel in one direction via Appleby and the other via Barrow. I don't know whether you would need additional local tickets from and to Sheffield, or if through tickets are available from there.

The Derbyshire Wayfarer is a good value ticket - £8.90 for the day.
valid on all buses/trains in Derbyshire plus to/fom Sheffield etc.
You could go to Buxton (change at New Mills) then get a bus to Matlock & return via Derby.

or try one of these day rangers from Northern (work out which you want then get a ticket from Sheffield to the ranger area if Sheffield isn't covered)

South Pennines Day Ranger: all routes Manc Picc/Vic-Leeds & Sheffield and Marple and Glossop in between. £18.50 1 adult one day. Restrictions on XC via Dearne Valley though - check Hope this helps

What about the east midlands day ranger. I fancied doing that buta lot of people said it wasnt worth the money. Can it be used on East Coast trains between Peterborough and Grantham.

Says here valid on XC, EMT, LM, Northern only. 1 adult, one day =£27.60

Can i use my family and friends railcard on that because i tried to use it on the Derbyshire Wayfarer but they wouldn`t allow it

Its not just me im travelling with friends and there kids so 3 adults 1 child and the railcard states up to 4 adults they`ve just put me on the task of finding a good place.
