A few pictures from Germany.

Evening All,

Although my recent trip to Germany was to visit some railway museums and experience some German steam, I did take a few pictures of the modern and everyday trains that we used to get around the country.

I have now added another dozen pictures to my Fotopic site and, if anyone is interested to see them, here's one of them :

I'm interested in what is the problem with the Alex. The fact that it's a private company, and Arriva in particular, running it? I actually did use one of these a couple of weeks back and other than my own ideological opposition to privately-run services it seemed fine.

What I don't like about Alex trains, is that they use ancient eastern european coaches which have very uncomfortable seats. The double deck coach which is used between Munich & Regensburg is fine. They could also do with improving the selection of food/drink in the buffet.

I have also used Metronom trains in northern germany which is (part) run by Arriva and they have excellent newish double deck coaches

Got you. I travelled from Marktredwitz to Regensburg in the double decker. Can't resist them

TBH, I much prefer the ALEX compartment coaches, DD stock is OK but I find it rather cramped.

The ALEX compartment coaches are fine for the 1hours 30 Munich-Regensburg or even 2hrs 15 Munich-Lindau but are a killer on the 6hours Munich-Prague.

There is a mixed bag of stock on ALEX. I found some of the coaches very nice. There is usually a first-class compartment air-conditioned coach, which has been partly converted into second-class - so there is plenty of space in the compartments.
