A Cracking day in York.

As you will know this weekend there were some definite goings on in York with both an A1 and a A4 on the cards.
Well I decided to take full advantage of such events although the former was unobtainable due to my train arriving to late but still.
I managed to have a very long but excellent day which got me for a change to push out the boat photography wise and hopefully you may agree there are a few gems in this collection.
Rather than run through what I did Ill let you check but there is definatly an A4 and a visit to the NRM.

A very nice collection of images there, nice variety of angles too, you aren't afraid to be creative.

If I could offer one piece of advice, as you have a dSLR it would be much better in the long run to take the time to shoot RAW and then process it into a finished JPEG. This is especially crucial with night shots, if you look at the links below they compare the same train at the smae place but RAW means you can change the colour temperature after shooting because at first mine looked like your HST did too.

Really that's cool I wear the hat so much these days people know it's me you should of asked if I was me.

And Mumrar cheers for the comments and the advice I do occasionally shoot in raw and some of the shots from York were in RAW but lately I am trying to be conservative with computer memory but cheers for the advice

Well Scott, if nothing else, please please please shoot RAW for your night shots. Without wishing to start another thread about editing of fots, it is very difficult to get the white balance right on a digital SLR unless you have the time to fart about beforehand. With my EOS400, on the advice of somebody who makes a living out of photography, I've taken to using the cameras own white balance settings (either tungsten or flourescent light) and then adjusting where necessary on the laptop at home. This is made possible by shooting RAW - much harder to do with a jpeg format image....

As for the collection - I like this one the best. Not what you'd call a traditional view but there's plenty going on here - the slippage, and the chap observing the departure - nicely captured.

I am definatly taking all this on board so don't worry guys more RAW for me especially with night shots.
And yeah I some how have managed to steer clear from traditional photos I think it's just I see things differently so basically they views you see in my shots are the way i see it all.
It sounds like utter tripe but it's the best way of explaining it.

Some great shots there - made really enjoyable viewing.

York really is a great place to spend some time at. The city is very nice, you've always got the NRM to visit whilst the station is pleasantly maintained with plenty of interesting traction to keep you entertained.

The fact that you encompassed a diesel and steam railtour, various other passenger workings and the NMT (aka 'The Flying Banana') is rather impressive.
