In December I'm going to be very fortunate to have a 5 week family holiday in Australia (split between Sydney and Perth) over Christmas. When going from Sydney to Perth everybody is going to fly, except me, as I'm planning to travel on the Indian Pacific which takes 3 days and 3 nights.

I've wanted to get fitter before going and also save on petrol costs for the car, and have set myself a bit of a challenge. Between 30th March and 14th December I'm trying to cycle the equivalent straight line distance of Redditch to Sydney - 10590 miles!! This requires averaging 41 miles every day, or 287 miles every week.

I've set up a blog for friends, family and others to follow my cycling updates. So far I've left mainland Britain and won't see land until I reach Denmark. The address for anyone interested is www.cycletosydney.tumblr.com

Geordie back from exile.
I love Australia and have been to both Perth & Sydney, although on separate trips. I'm sure you will love the place, not sure if you've been there before but there is a lot to do in both places on the railway front.
I'm envious though as crossing the Nullabor is one of the things on my "to do" list. Miles and miles of absolutely nothing, interspersed with more nothing. Cracking. :D

You'll thoroughly enjoy it over there. Both cities are fantastic.
When your in Perth, can I recommend getting the train down to Fremantle? A very interesting town. Not like the rest.

My challenge is to do the Bridge Climb every time i stay in Sydney. Ive got 2 under my belt so far! So much fun.
