12/09/09 Doing a section of the London Loop from Addington Hill to Hamsey Green, and a pix of 378008 at WB. I want to thank Capital FM for the entertainment.

Also 59001's bell - it reflects the locos US origin; IIRC it used to be a legal requirement for locos to be fitted with a bell stateside. I think it now carries a lightweight replica of the original. Does it actually dong (or whatever bells do)?

OOI, what other UK locos have been fitted with bells? I can only think of one other (King George V which had one fitted when it toured the US in the twenties).

59201 has a bell fitted at one end, like 59001. On a smaller scale, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway's Nos. 9 Winston Churchill and 10 Dr Syn did/do carry bells, which I believe do work. No. 9 certainly had its one fitted when I saw it in July.
