What does your work issue have to do with the MMI? I don't see the correlation. They won't be checking what you're company based issues are, unless you intend to tell them for some reason.

They are going to know regardless, right? I mean it's an internal vacancy I've applied for and the incident (my first and only) is going to be on my permanent record. My line manager doesn't know if it will affect the MMI but he isn't too familiar with that side of things to be honest. If it doesn't affect the MMI in itself, that is nice to know but I'm guessing theoretically I could pass the MMI and ultimately not get the position because of the incident? Not getting the job while not losing a life would be preferable to not getting the losing and losing a life in the process.

The MMI especially if hosted by OPC at Watford doesn't go into a background check for it. That happens in your case before the assessement process begins by said TOC during initial Sift or during onboarding. MMI you have nothing to worry about.
Hi all, so I’ve just failed my medical with SouthEastern due to colour deficiency and the rail doctor has said end of the road. I only received the single traditional Ishihara test despite RSSB saying a secondary test for severity would be introduced after a study they carried out found many drivers were unfairly being struck out. Any advice on next steps or just accept defeat?

That is very strange, as I have also read that RSSB report and it has been out long enough now that it should have filtered down to TOCs? Did you fail every plate or was it one or two? Hello everyone.
Im currently waiting for my assessment day for GWR, when I applied for this job I saw that it’s not actually available position, but talent pool. What does it mean? Even if I’m successful in tests and MMI, they don’t guarantee me any job?
Also, I’m a foreign woman currently working for one of TOC as a caterer.
I’m ngl my English isn’t perfect and I do worried it a lot cause as I can see I’m gonna do some WCT, which requires me to write and explain things in English, and my writing skills are pretty poor
Also I’m so stressed out about all those tests, I can’t get myself together…. I’d be very appreciative if someone could give me some insights about how exactly those assessments and interviews gonna be like, what do I have to expect, which tests are the hardest one…. Especially if someone have had these tests for GWR recently….

Is this your first application? Because you get 3 attempts now I believe there will just be a period before you can reapply
Only if you first sat the psychometrics after December 2024

Don't give up, reapply when you can, I didn't get through 1st time, I thought it wouldn't happen. But I reapplied and smashed it 2nd time. So go again when you can

Its only the opc assessments including mmi that are limited, now 3 , was 2.
You can take and pass them as many times as you like but obviously once you pass them you won't need to do them again except for anything extra the specific toc require.

First thing to do is get onto the website for your local train company, if they have a career's page which most will , sign up for job alerts, and keep an eye out here, jobs are posted on this forum fairly regularly.

As D3WY said, sign up for job alerts from your local train operator, but also definitely keep an eye on the jobs & careers forum here - that's where I spotted the job opening that I applied for. I also spent many hours trawling the forum for information about the role, about all the assessments and everything else that came to mind. Good luck! bestym

Hi. I have a query.
I applied for gwr. I am at the mmi stage. Due to take in a few weeks.
Swr are recruiting also. And im wondering if I could apply for that as a back up if I don't pass the gwr. Will gwr know I have applied at another toc. Does it look bad if I did? Or should I just have all eggs in one basket. I would prefer gwr im just thinking of a back up also would I need to take all the stage 1 tests again as I passed them in April.

If you fail your MMI that will be a fail across all TOCs as it's part of the RSSB national standard, so under those circumstances it wouldn't matter if you've got SWR as a backup or not. GWR will only know if you sit your MMI with SWR, idk if they'll think it looks bad. I'm not sure if SWR will accept results from another application with a different TOC, maybe someone else can confirm that for you

You’ve definitely come to the right place. Can’t recommend this forum enough, I doubt I’d have got my job without it! Loads of info on here, I spent hours reading through it all. There’s usually a few threads dedicated to specific TOCs and FOCs recruitment drives. Just be prepared to apply the minute a job goes live as the competition is fierce and some companies don’t recruit frequently. Also don’t panic if it takes you a while to get through to an interview/psychometric tests. 1000’s apply for these jobs and it’s easy to get frustrated after getting knocked back multiple times. Many do, but not all of them, so sign up for specific job alerts, follow TOCs on social media, LinkedIn, etc.

If you use the search function you can find specific threads for the TOC/FOC you want to apply for and it will give you an idea of what to expect for their recruitment process.

Hey all. Got my DMI for GWR coming up in a couple weeks which is the final stage pending medical so I’m very excited and anxious too. With the interview is it more traditional why I want the job and what I know about the company etc or should I brush up on train knowledge too like SPADS and types of signals and rolling stock.

Hi
The railway won’t accept colour blindness. There are Psychometric tests. If you pass all the tests you will be sent for a medical
(which the railway will send you for)
(My husband is a train driver)
