Now I'm no expert, but having successfully navigated this process you'll see I started my comment with 'if you've only had 1 interview' and if you had only had 1 interview there would be another to come. Sorry for trying to help mate ;)

Apologies for the confusion, I wasn't trying to be funny, I really am not very knowledgable when it comes to these things, this is my first application. You said 'if you've only had 1 interview at the assessment centre' we had 1 at the assessment centre and one previously at a separate location. I thought you were saying we still had another to go.

Thanks anyway :D

Hi all,

Thanks for all the info on here. I have one question on the structured interview: one of the questions may well be about any emergency situation i may have encountered, but what if you've never really been involved in an emergency?

I've never dragged anyone out of a burning building or anything like that, or helped with a serious RTA. I can only think of two incidents really. One was dealing with an injury when i was co-leading a voluntary activity (ended up taking the victim to A&E). The other was when I came across a motorist who had come off the road ay a level crossing and ended up in the cess.

Also, I'm wondering how much my age would count against me if I did apply for a trainee driver's job. I'm 50 now (I think I'm relatively fit & healthy compared to others my age), and it's encouraging to read that others have seen trainees on courses who are in their 50's, but are they just a rare exception?

They're not after a superhero with the 'dealing with an emergency' question, they're looking for a person who can deal with a stressful situation with a cool head. the two examples you've said look absolutely fine to me.

Although I originally applied to Lime Street i've been placed at Manchester Piccadilly. Suits me fine because travel times from my home are roughly the same to both locations.

I've been sent a contract and other documents via email as I requested this. But i havent yet received anything by post. What about you?

No nothing through the post, depending when and how it was sent, could come today or tomorrow. I currently work for royal mail so, I'll let you know when I get hold of mine.

I've also been placed at Victoria, after applying for Manchester Stations.

Any idea what the "Life Changing Events" form is we have to fill in?

Hopefully the documents will arrive today so I can get them sent back in good time.

Just think, when you become a train driver all the "ex spurts" who have never even been in a train cab can come along and tell you how easy it is and we are going to be replaced by a Sinclair ZX81 next week!

I'm getting that already. All you do is push a lever forward and backwards right?

Received my pack yesterday, everything is in the pack you need to send back, although the last page of my life changing events form is missing so if yours is let me know and I'll email you the electronic version as they had to email it me.

There's a lot to fill out think they're wanting it all back before 03/01/13!!!

Thanks Elboobio,

I have attached the files for all to use and also emailed you them, (hopefully they will work).

All can someone let me know if they work ok, if not I will give it another go.

And good luck to all those taking assessments.

EDIT: Right I think that's it, can someone try trhe bourdon zip and let me know if it works, couldn't upload the help tool so you may get an error but click ok and it should open. It's pretty easy to use so no need for the help.

The links have disappeared off this post?? Does anybody have them?

No idea why they have disapeared maybe there is a time limit for attachments to save space, or the forum mod has removed them. Shame though if this is the case as they are used by many.

I will re-attach below let me know if it works or if I need to try again (it is a zip file as I am not allowed to attach an exe file) :D

Think its quite rare though I know in an MDD interview someone (an external!) was asked if he knew what parts are under sole bar level on a DMU!

I went for a Mainline Drivers interview as an Internal back in 2009 and was asked about isolating TIS/EBS as one of the questions which was a piece of p**s for me to answer as I isolate them several times every day but can't see them asking that to an external.

Other than that I have not known any technical questions being asked.

Not for a trainee job no, nothing will be about trains in the interview except the usual 'what do you know about the company'/'what do you expe frm the job' style questions.

They don't expect you to know anything as a trainee.
