Does anybody know what is happening at Three Bridges ROC regarding recruitment? I've been in the pool for 6 months now and new positions were advertised in December. Recruitment have said that there aren't any vacancies at the moment and that they are building up a reserve list. I'm wondering if there actually will be any vacancies that come up before I time out of the pool. I'm hoping that this suggests a mass recruitment at some point.

Hi all, I have got an interview soon for the Crossing Keeper role at Somerleyton and was wondering if anyone out there already does this role and could give me some information on it, ie shifts, whats involved etc and any tips for the interview, cheers all
Three Bridges has two locations I believe. The ASC and ROC. I am not 100% sure on the differences or if transferable, but someone more knowledgeable might be able to answer. This may be why recruitment have told you that.

Not sure on that specific location, but the role of a crossing keeper is you are responsible for the safe operation of the crossing. Closing and opening the gates (either manually or electronically). Making sure the crossing is clear of cars, pedestrians and animals and then through some means sending a "slot" to the signaller which will then allow them to clear the signals over the crossing to allow trains to pass over safely.
Depending on the location it might be open 24/7 or will close at night after the last train has passed and then re open in the morning before the first scheduled service.
In the interview you'll want to emphasise any safety critical experience you have. Any experience in safety critical communication as well. You'll also want to look up the non technical skills (I'll post below) and try and work them into any answers you give.

Somerleyton is not your usual crossing keeper role as its a river bridge not a road. You will be swinging a bridge rather than a set of gates.
Shifts are 12 hours, 0600/1800, (maybe slightly different mutual changeover times)

Hello everyone, been reading up on this thread and there is so much information it is great to see. Yesterday I completed my form after passing online tests to say which alternative locations I could do. When I submitted it now my portal is blank, is that expected? It just says "Next step" and nothing underneath it. I assume the next step is finding out if I get an assessment centre day or a talent pool message?
The last steps all happened within 48h but I assume this is where everything slows?

Hey yes you will receiveessages saying you have successfully completed all online tests and they will be sorting to see if you get to an assessment day, but this can take a while mine took 3 weeks for the invite and another 3 weeks for the day to come round but it's needed dto research everything for your day. I've just been successful for a G6 at Manchester ROC so if you do absolutely hammer the reading and the Non technical skills is imperative. Good luck

Hey, I had mine on 23 of January presentation and Interview. Look at the non technical skills and think about situations were you have demonstrated those skills that was the whole of my interview with questions such as "can you tell me time when" of you have situations to be able to talk about your halfway there.

Thank you for the reply. I have gone through the NTS and prepared examples that cover those. How was the presentation? Was it as straightforward as delivering it and then straight into the interview? Or was there follow up questions after your presentation? Hope your assessment went well!
Yeah the presentation went really well I just sat in front of them withy laptop and gave them copies and read my script I had done to go along with the bullet points. I had interview first which was really good and then the presentation with questions I had at the end.
The whole day was really well run an luckily I was successful I start sometime in April for my IST

I also have my presentation coming up soon and was wondering whether side notes or a script are allowed during the presentation. From what you mentioned earlier, I understand that it may be acceptable to have notes alongside the presentation. I initially thought I would need to memorise everything and present entirely from memory.
Could you please confirm whether notes are permitted, and if so, whether we are required to make copies of the script to provide to the interview panel as well?

Yeah I made a script to write off and made copies for the panel to go back over with the presentation for context after the interview. It makes it a lot easier aswell and just make sure ya have a practice as I was way over the 15 minutes initially and had to make changes.

Hi everyone, I was successful at all my online stuff and was invited to an Assessment Centre. There was only 2 dates available for consecutive days and unfortunately I’m away for both. I have notified the recruitment team who have informed me they may put on an additional session if all the positions don’t get successfully filled. I was wondering if anyone ever had any experience of this before? There is off course no garuntee. I’m guessing my application will stay valid if another position does come up in the future?
