Grade 8 would have been a basic of 53,142 on last years rates of pay.
When did the pay deal come in? I'm due to start in December (grade 2) & paperwork says £33,675 so am I now going to be on £34,908?

The updated pay matrix for 2025 takes into consideration the rise after the pay deal was accepted in May. Back pay isn’t due until this month I believe which is why maybe there’s some discrepancy. Rest assured tho you will be paid the same as anyone else on your grade and the 2025 matrix should be correct

I’ve just checked and my contract says 53,141 that I got about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully that gets amended once I get a start date!
Mine says the old rates too. Then below it, it says that the next pay review will be January 2025. It will be amended, I'm sure.

For those worrying about pay etc, I was offered a Grade 9 role back in October last year and my contract stated a salary of £52,851. The pay deal from 2024 was finalised (not sure when) and I got an email stating my salary might be different upon starting due to this. I was on the grade 2 salary with the uplift from that pay deal, so I wouldn’t worry about it. Everybody will be paid the new Grade 2 salary at IST which is £34,871.
I will second what the difference has said regarding new starts who are worried about not getting the pay deal.
I did some looking into this last year due to a very badly worded FAQ sheet made by NR that used jargon that new starters wouldn't be familiar with that didn't really give an answer if new signallers got the pay rise at the same time as existing signallers.
So from my research and experience signallers are all paid the same regardless of start date so all pay rises are applied to all signallers (new and existing) at the exact same time

Sorry to jump on here, just a quick question after seeing the pay scales image for signallers.
Do signallers not get an hourly rate increase for nights? Do they just get a set extra amount for the full shift? £13-26 per shift depending on grade?

Hi mate. Look back at the pay scale Coach B shared and where you see the left hand column starting Basic Salary and working down, you’ll notice it says Nightshift Allowance (PN) meaning per night of course. This is different for each Grade as the nightshift allowance is worked out at 10% of basic pay.

Signaller hours between 2200-0600 are paid at time plus 10%
Quick question….. with the basic salary whilst we’re on a rota, does that only cover Monday-Friday? And then Saturday and Sunday are paid as extra? Just want to try and roughly work out my take home pay as a grade 2 trainee. Or if anybody is currently a grade 2 trainee and can tell me exactly what they earn each month

TLDR - plan to earn the basic grade 2 salary until you get signed off for your first box
Your base salary is all shifts from 0001 on Monday to 2359 on Saturday, only Sundays, Bank Holidays, nights and Rest Days are usually paid extra. You may get paid a couple of hours of Sunday rate on IST if you are travelling then, but plan to only be earning the Grade 2 base. Different lines do training differently but on ours when you are training your first box you will only do Mon-Fri day shifts and get ‘booked off’ for Bank Holidays so you’ll not be pulling any extras there either if your area is the same.

Last May I was on IST, take home pay was £1983 to £2208. I had a bank holiday in there and was traveling Sundays. You'll need to add the last 2 pay increases total 7.1% I think.

It was a while ago when I applied but I think you have to email someone at Network Rail first from a work computer before you can do anything. Unfortunately you can’t just apply from home off your own back is my recollection. Maybe ask if you can borrow a work laptop during a lunch break from IST and figure it out? Sorry I can’t be more helpful. I’ll have a look when I’m in work but that’s not until Thursday.

How does it work with travelling on Sundays? I’m looking to travel up Sunday evening just so I miss the rush in the morning. I’m only 2 hours away so I don’t necessarily have to stay on the Sunday night
I was paid 6hrs flat rate for travel on Sundays. Lived 2.5hrs away from IST.
I'd recommend staying every Sunday night, two hours is long enough as you'll want to be fully rested on the Monday morning, and if you're on a simulator group that morning you'll need to be there even earlier.
Talk with your LOM about what you'll get back for travel time - I got roughly the time it took to travel, train tickets are bought for you.

I think the official policy is that you are paid for the extra time it takes you to travel to IST compared to your home location.
So for example, my home location is 30 minutes away from my house, it took me 60 minutes to get to my TCB course so I got paid 30 minutes travel time on a Sunday because it was the “extra” I was being forced to travel compared to a “normal” shift in the box.
When I was at IST last year we got paid our travel time for Sunday's. Apparently the minimum they could pay us for a Sunday was 6 hours regardless of how short your travel time was.
You also should get all your train tickets paid for and hotel from Sunday to Friday each week

Unlikely to be honest, we would start ours around 7 and depending on what we were doing, that was even tight for three people.
It’s a shame your LOM isn’t allowing you to stay on the Sunday. As far as I’m aware, they do have a travel time where they need to book you a hotel but my LOM booked everyone one from Sunday as they thought that would make things easier for everyone.
No offence but given your travel time your LOM should have ensured you have a hotel for the Sunday night regardless as your brain will be frazzled by the end of Monday even with a good night's sleep let alone 2 hours travel beforehand.
All other IST's I've known of have all had hotels booked Sunday night to Friday morning so either your LOM is trying to save on their costs training you by cutting back on Sunday travel time and 1 less hotel day or there has been a recent change to policy.
As for morning sim, you're going to want at least 2 hours before class so you ideally need to be there 0700
