Ideally I want progression in the role if I was to get it. Is there anywhere I can see what grade boxes are around my area? So I wouldn’t have to move a distance in the future? I am Carlisle based.

An obvious target would be, er, Carlisle PSB (G7, IIRC?).

You wouldn't get grade 3 pay until after you passed out of the SB. While at IST and during SB training you would be paid grade 2

You may train for there. If you are on a T post contract there is no guarantee there is a vacancy there. I would ask at interview what the training process is and where they see you working once passed out. If successful I strongly recommend applying for internal vacancies from day one.

Hi, strange one, has anyone as a signaller managed to get authorised for the NR further/higher education grant, and if so what course was it as it looks to be only be courses related to your field and I can’t think of many directly related courses?

Just a quick note to say thank you for everyone who has posted help and advice on this forum over the years. I've been going through the application process for the last few weeks (G8 at Rugby ROC) and also had an email inviting me for the assessment centre interview in two weeks time. Very excited, fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

I am invited to this too at a similar time.

It does however just say on correspondence and the portal that It is an interview with a time of 9am to 10:29am so it does not say it is full day either.

The assessment centre is just a normal interview, usually lasting between 1-2 hours

Depends on the region I think. Some just do straight up interviews. West Coast South still do assessment days with team exercises etc, not sure about other routes.

Hi all, what's the longest anyone's had to wait for interview dates when you've reached the assessment centre stage, I'm hoping for the best as this is the longest wait I've had for an answer but the waits killing me haha I believe the job advert closed on the 20th march

Likewise, though the correspondence states a time of 9am - 13:44 for me.

Yhh that makes sense, I have read differing accounts on assessment centres some just interviews and others with an extra activity.

I agree, it is a little confusing! My timings are 0900-1344.

I believe there should be some sort of email sent out with further information, but I haven't had anything yet.

Had my assessment centre 3 weeks ago, just wondering if anyone who applied for G8 role in Colchester had heard anything yet. Checking emails every hour

@calgy Hi mate, did you get an offer? Have my assessment centre coming up for the same grade, it seems there'll be some activities likened to the role of a signaller prior to the interview, been doing a ton of research but any other tips as to what to expect would be great

Does this mean it may change or is that what it usually says?

Last time i interviewed in 2024 it was over Teams.

I am the same. I would have thought they would let us know what to expect on the day to enable us to prepare. Hopefully receive something in the next couple of days!

Which grade did you apply for? I know Rugby ROC are hiring for different grades, whether its just an interview or interview + activities could possibly be based on the grade you're applying for?

I applied for grade 2, Yeah it could be I imagine the higher grades is a more intense process

Hi all, thanks for the previous information in this thread I have been working my way through it all.

If you’re successful at interview and medical etc. and are given a job offer would you then be given a place at the nearest to your home signalling school or will they send you anywhere?

Where are the schools located, I’ve seen online there are ones in York, South Wales and near Birmingham. There was also mention in this thread a few years ago about one in Preston, is that still in operation?

For info, the position applied for is a G2 position and I’m at the assessment centre stage.
