It seems, from others' replies in this thread, that the longer it takes from assessment centre the better chances of you getting either, a) Talent pool email. NW will potentially contact you within 12 months to offer a position -or- b) You will be called and given an offer. Fingers crossed for the latter mate

You can come off the street into any grade.
May be hard on higher grades as they prefer internal applications over off the street, but it's very possible.

You may apply for any grade of job that is advertised. However, if you are successful and then go to the Initial Signaller Training (IST) course, you are paid Grade two during the training irrespective of the actual grade for the location you applied for.

I just had a look through my emails and can’t seem to find the initial email for my medical. I recall only having to wait around a week or so. I got a confirmation email 2 days prior to my medical to confirm all the details too.

I officially start as a Network Rail employee in just over a week. And then start IST on May 12th in Derby. I really cannot wait to get started.
Just looking to reach out to anyone who is on the course and if you'd like to talk and possibly meet before starting the course. Maybe during the 2 weeks E-Learning.

All the information you could possibly need is already available on this forum.
It will take a fair amount of time to read all the way through but it is worth it, and you have six months so you aren’t on a time crunch.

There is ample parking on site. Have you just started a G5 there?

There should be some parking available there. Press the intercom at the gate for access, and remember to reverse park in the space. Walk up the ramp/steps to the access door and press the intercom there too.

Completed my assessment centre over 3 weeks ago, was wondering if anyone else here went for G7 at Derby and have heard back yet? Or how long it will take to hear back? Seen people saying they hear back within a few days so not quite sure what’s happening, going crazy checking emails and candidate portal lol

Same here. After my interview I was told I should hear something within 2 weeks but I’ve not heard anything back yet.

Relief or Resident? Different grades have different rosters for relief I believe.

Hi all, I was put into the talent pool for Perth G2 Trainee signaller on the 27th March 2025. I received a call today and I have been offered a position for the Tayside region ('East Coast North Area', as per the offer email) - I am over the moon to say the least. This post is just a reminder that the 'talent pool' email is not the end of the road. In fact, it seems that quite a lot of people on these forums get offered after receiving the talent pool email.

Hi guys! Today I received an email in my junk that I was successful for the assessment stage. When I went to book my slot, I was met with no way to press “view information” for the next stage?
Obviously I’m going to call them tomorrow and ask first thing but just curious until then

IIRC, it took mine a little while before I was able to select a date/time slot for my assessment centre interview. Just a quick note to say thank you for everyone who has posted help and advice on this forum over the years. I've been going through the application process for the last few weeks (G8 at Rugby ROC) and also had an email inviting me for the assessment centre interview in two weeks time. Very excited, fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
