I think you guys need to read back previous threads. Few pages back someone uploaded a shot of the time scale from applying to being successful, with all dates and times. I done the same about 30 pages back. I know when I was applying, I read every page of this thread. The last thing HR need is everyone ringing after 1 week saying how long will it be to find out if I have an interview...NOTHING is quick in rail way recruitment so you need to learn to be patient!

Hmm I understand that, but despite other people having posted timelines of the process, it seems to vary the length of time that it takes. I’m sure HR won’t mind the queries, and to clarify for ones own situation it could be beneficial. It’s what they do on a daily basis and actively encourage queries to be emailed to them. I’m not a part of that recruitment process however, so doesn’t make a difference to me

I don’t know how true this is but I know a few people who work in NR and they claim that in NR recruitment, silence is normally a good sign, especially after interview, as they tend to reject low scoring or candidates they don’t wish to appoint quite quickly.

Mine was on 11th. My status hasn’t changed on the irecruitment site either. It’s just stuck on “invite to assessment pending” and has been since the day I received my interview invite.

Wow. Thats worse than mine. Mine at least changed to assessment 2 scheduled. Dont think it matters though as mine skipped a few increments to get to that stage

That would be amazing. I think what’s generally agreed is that the thing to look out for is the status changing to “assessment 2 complete”. Normally people seem to be contacted with an offer or sent a rejection email the same day or within a few days.

NR recruitment are a funny old thing, I wouldn't read too much into wait times, I've waited months too find out good and bad news. Conversely I've had both good and bad news a day or two later as well.

No issue with multiple applications, its a competitive industry, apply for all suitable vacancies to give yourself the best chance possible!

Thanks mate I have applied for a 7 and passed the online testing just the waiting game now, also what are the rules on distance or re locating is it similar to train driver's etc do you know mate.

Not as sttict as with drivers in terms of distance, although you dont want to be traveling several hours either end of a turn!

Also relocation is no problem, I've heard of quite a few who have relocated for their first roles.

Hi all. I applied for Crossing Keeper vacancy last week. Looking at the salary in the job description it's Level 1.

I got an email yesterday saying I have met the benchmark for the SJT. The vacancy closes for applications tomorrow so I'm guessing I may be waiting a few weeks to see if I'll be invited to interview.

Doing some research the signal box I've applied for has been downgraded to a Gate Box and it's sole purpose now is to supervise the pedestrian crossing and protecting signals.

Is there anyone who has done a similar job in the past or present and give any feedback as to what it's like? If its Level 1 i assume i wont have to attend signalling school?

If you have the contact details of the manager, is it worth asking for an update after some time has elapsed? Especially if they specifically told you that you’d hear after the last candidate has been interviewed and the date of that last interview.

Hi there,

I currently work as a grade 1 crossing keeper. I will be moving on to a higher grade soon but i can give you some insight.

No you wont have to go to signalling school.
You are on your own which i think is great. Depending on how many trains you will have an hour u May have to entertain yourself.
Its a great step in the door to network rail and future signalling positions.
Dont be fooled by the salary 24,000 its more like 30,000- 32,000 if you are doing 2 sundays a month
