I have a question about Network Rail assessment centre interviews for a Signaller when being on holiday.

I am awaiting an assessment centre invitation. Now assuming Im offered one, but the dates fall whilst I’m away on holiday (due to fly out 4th August for 11 nights) what happens?

Has anyone encountered a situation like this?

Unfortunately in most cases NR won't rearrange dates for assessment centres or interviews. There's a lot of moving parts behind the scenes in order to arrange the relevent people to be available for these events.

I previously had been offered an online interview and I was going to be away on holiday and asked if it could be rearranged and they said they have no other dates so I accepted the date but made them away that my connection might not be the best.

I just got the following for the grade 6 signaller role in Manchester: “We can see from your results that you meet the standard we require, however, you have not been shortlisted, either due to high volume of applications, or because you might be too far from the chosen location to meet the safety standard.”

Bit gutting as I’m 14 minutes away from the ROC. Anyone had similar in the past and actually heard back after being put on the reserve list?

Hi - I got exactly the same, so know how you feel.

It also said on mine that they hold my online assessment results for 6 months so I assume if i apply for another signaller role within that time I don’t need to repeat the online tests again.

I’ll continue to keep looking, don’t give up

Good evening, I've done all of my onboarding now for a G2 position in the midlands and have an email confirming that they will give send me through an IST start date. Is it likely to be a short turnaround now. I'm not sure whether they will get me on one quickly as at today 30/07/2026 I still haven't put my notice in and will also be going on a holiday abroad in the first two weeks in November. I'm not sure if this means it's likely to be post November now but I'm working to those parameters, any thoughts would be useful thanks

From what I've heard it's rare (but not unprecedented) that ISTs run over Christmas. They're usually finished before the xmas period and start up again afterwards. So if it was to be post-November then you're probably looking at the new year for starting IST.

You will most likely get IST at start off January.

My time frame was :-
March 2025 interview
May 2025 reserve pool
December 2025 offered position
(IST was supposed to be April 2026, but I had family holiday for May, so had to wait longer)
Official start 3rd of August
IST 17th of August

It can be a long wait.

Hi all

Sorry if this has been asked to death, I'm sure it has.
I’m thinking of applying for the talent pool for signaller. What is the process? So from when I start the process to the end, I have completed all the train driver process and didn’t get through my DMI so I know it’s lengthy and the responses can be poor but I went to the open day at rugby and felt like I would actually prefer to lean more to the signalling side of the rail.

Do you still have to do the 70 questions? And if so is it straight from the off, so I’ve created my online profile and about to press continue with application but want to be as prepared as possible from when I press next.

Thanks in advance, and again sorry if it’s been asked to death

Hi,
I have currently moved to stage 5 shortlisting on my application, I havent recieved an email stating I have passed the video assessment. It says the next step would be invite to the assessment day. I was wondering if sitting at stage 5 was the same as receiving conformation of passing the video interview stage, or it was a shortlisting for the video interviews to be?? reviewed before assesment day selection
