I do enjoy playing around in test systems, creating things you wouldn't be able to create in real life but which still mimics workflows you would use in real life.

Usually a standard test card number depending on payment gateway (eg 42 repeated on Stripe, 4 and all the 1s on PayPal come to mind).

Gets interesting when there is no test system (but not as bad as for outbound payments like BACS where signoff from someone senior is usually the hardest thing to get hold of...)

Indeed, however the railway likes playing around in live systems. "We can't possibly do it another way, but we've set the price to a million quid" is frankly ridiculous, but apparently how it works, so unquestionable.

I don't but I'd love to know. I have heard for companies where there was no test system but it was brought in during my time working for them.

Test systems are rarely a perfect replica of production, and the larger and more complex a system gets the more true this is.

So if you don't want your launch of a new feature to be a public fiasco you add the new feature to the production system for a limited userbase first, then test it actually works before going public with it.

Not exactly a great discount for Stevenage commuters. Existing Carnet Peak fare is £10.70 one-way so £21.40 for a return.

That is a bit disingenuous - most people only use five days of a seven day season - the eight day ticket should therefore be compared with 8 / 5 x 101.70 = £162.72 which isn't quite so bad to jump to compare to £177.00 - more like a 9% increase. Travelling from Stevenage to London at the weekend is somewhat cheaper than 1 / 8 x £177.

Not exactly a great discount for Stevenage commuters. Existing Carnet Peak fare is £10.70 one-way so £21.40 for a return.

So that's a 3.4% increase (from £21.40/day to £22.125, assuming one return journey per day) on top of the 2.9% one in March. At the same time, the deal changes from buying 5 return tickets which expire after 3 months to buying 8 return tickets which expire after 4 weeks.

I can see these tickets not being universally welcomed.
