Also ran with the 89 a few times I understand, it accelerated quicker than the 91 - presumably due to the lower gearing and higher short-term output. Thus such a combination might be the ultimate "hellfire" arrangement ;)
Martin Loader (who else? lol) has a pic of the 89 at Abbots Ripton with one of the HST DVTs (43013) coupled directly behind dating from August 1988 (when the former had been in service for about a month) while working the 07:00 off Peterborough to King's Cross. Obviously not in push-pull mode in this image, but still a interesting one all the same.
