I just received a 1957 BR Continental Timetable that I bought on eBay and inside was tucked a trip report from 1951. I attach a copy of the image and my attempt at a transcription can be found here:

I'm wondering whether the word you've put as '[unclear]' might be 'through' (in the sense of 'as a result of')?

On your note 5, would this have been the Petite ceinture? My understanding is that much of this is now either disused or part of the RER, and it's the Grande Ceinture that's now used for freight, but others are likely to know more than me.

It would have been the Petite Ceinture as the Grande is much further out. Much of the Petite is out of use and goods trains no longer use what remains.

Unclear word = ‘trams’ or ‘trains’ ? Comparing the ‘tr’ and the ‘i’ with a long dot from the previous word ‘electric’

Nice to find that in the timetable! Thanks for sharing. I guess of some very modest note that the original owner folded their 1951 trip report in a later (1957) timetable that they then kept.

Agree (though "Eastern Switzerland" is an odd phrase re a train that has come via the Simplon route.

Definitely, the GC would have taken too long for the return times (very smart working even so).

I would go for "trains" though I suppose a British visitor might have called the electric railcars "trams."

Some interesting features of the trip:
Steam from Dijon to Vallorbe.
The route from Vevey to Gruyeres (no doubt the shortest) - CEV (CF Electriques Veveysans) via Blonay and the long-closed line to Chatel-St-Denis, then the Gruyeres-Fribourg-Morat system via Bulle to Gruyeres.

Britannia 70014 on the boat train had presumably worked the Down Golden Arrow that morning, leaving 70004 for the evening return train.

Possibly. Anyone got their magazine, or the (RCTS) Railway Observer for late 1951? I wonder if those societies might be interested in the document?
