Hi all,

Just wondering if I can post this here, please move it it does belong elsewhere (apart from the bin lol!)

I was reading some time ago about the floods and that the summer extras were running up to Edinburgh or something vice the voyagers.

Now I thought the headcode would be 1Sxx or maybe 1Zxx for some reason, but it was listed as 9F28 or something!?

AFAIK 9xxx is International (9Ixx etc) mainly for Eurostars, never thought Scotlan was International!

What was the reason for a class 9 headcode, is there another catergory for 9?

cheers,
James.

I beileve the Route 3 Voyagers from Glasgow/Dundee/Aberdeen to Plymouth/Penzance are all "class 9s".

Mr Branson declared his trains to be more important than Express Passenger Class 1.
A Class 9 is now also a train that must not be delayed due to the severe knock on delays it causes {pathing at critical junctions like Birmingham and Reading}
Class 3 is now something extra aswell, Empty stock going to form a peak time departure?

Well, only 1 Penzance is each way now, but there is quite a few Plymouths though which are 9's

Class 9 XC services are those that are prone to delays. They have simply been re-catigorised so that signallers can recognise them and path them accordingly, thus (trying to) avoiding the knock on delays

Personally I think they should route class 9's as per the old rule book.Semi fitted freight(9A) or Unfitted freight (9B). Hopefully that would stop that bearded tw*t from grinning insanly all the while.

Oh & I believe it is now sunday.........Ohhh that would mean all you virgin cross country staff are now, well lets just say you are back in reality, green signals you will never see again. Routed behind ECS & wickham trolleys will be your future. Welcome to reality beyond the beard, welcome to whats left of the real railway after Sir bling alot screwed us all with his extra cash for prority routes malarky.

RIP Virgin XC.................Welcome to hell with the rest of us.<D

Well, I know that the 0900 GLC-PNZ is. Ironically, I believe it is still prone to delays by the time it reaches BTM.

Glasgow to Bristol is, after all, an enormous leap by anyone's book. Just a good few hundred miles...With all that interfacing with other TOCs at major interchanges and junctions, it's hardly surprising if it's late at Bristol.

Mind, the distance et al didn't stop the 0820 from Aberdeen running on-time yesterday, was noted into Bristol on time! Which was FAR superior to FGW Local's efforts. Jim will know what I mean!

Maybe not, but they had some farces/strange workings on...1424 to Cardiff will have eventually left after 1501 (I was out on the 1500 BRI - PAD by then), with 158749 (taken off a Great Malvern earlier and left 153370 to work onwards by itself!) fired up shortly before it arrived to attach and was smoking from the undercarriage very badly! Lots of cancellations with FGW Local trains too. Worse than the efforts of the other TOCs it would appear!

LOL, most 153's do this. It's just the webasto engine preheater which burns diesel fuel to warm the engine up. Its supposed to shut off but they seldom do. Its only a flick of an MCB at either end to isolate them though. Although I sometimes leave them going for that clag type effect!:grin:

Apparently they can catch fire if left going long enough, but I think that has been rare. Stinks though doesnt it, 153 in summer with all the topwindows open & stationary soon stinks the whole carriage out. :)

Thanks for the clear-up guys!

BTW that webasto (or whatever) thing, does that happen on 158s? me and DJC_158 saw one at platform 0 smoking quite a bit, looked under and saw a small flame, ran to the guard to say theres a fire starting, came back, it was gone! weather he thought we were playing about or not I don't know, he revved the engine and seemed alright after.

Me and Jules also saw a 158 stabled at Crewe at night, caught fire massivley, someone came to extinguish it luckily!
