9D validity restriction

Hi all,

Possibly an unanswerable question...!

I can see that the evening time restrictions on Super Off-Peak Returns with a 9D code have apparently been lifted "until further notice" on Fridays on departures from London Kings Cross and Stevenage. (Normally these tickets would be barred between 1500 and 1815 on Fridays.)

This would be very helpful for a time-critical journey I am making on a Friday late afternoon in June. Is it likely that the restriction will be re-imposed between now and mid-June, or do we think that "easement" (if I can call it that) will apply indefinitely? Should I just keep checking up until the time I make the journey?

Until further notice it applies on a Friday - so i suspect warning will be given if it's removed - give LNER a tweet they may be able to advise

Surely it's the restriction that applies when you buy the ticket, not one which may apply subsequently? So you could buy 3 months in advance.

I would expect it to be as it is on the day of use, although if an itinerary is issued and followed it should be accepted

Thanks all; LNER live chat on Facebook replied very quickly, I must say, and confirmed no plans to reinstate but that the website would be updated if they are reinstated. Thanks for the social media suggestion - I hadn't thought of that!

Ultimately the restriction in place at the time of purchase is what counts; theoretically LNER could send you notice of a proposed variation of contract, and give you a chance to object, but this is impracticable in the context of the limited customer data available to TOCs when you buy a train ticket.

I think it's rather unlikely that the easement will be scrapped anytime soon anyway.
