Fred always does that, he's just slagging off 450s cos if he says 455s are good people take the **** more than they do out of me or you Nathan for liking 444s.

TBH 455s are ok for what they do, but they're slow buggers (75mph IIRC) and completely irrelevant but I don't like their livery. That said, the seats are better inside.

I've yet to go on a 444 or 450 that has failed AirCon, whereas 159s and 442s suffer a lot from failed AC - though I must say 159s are nowhere near as bad as their bretheren 158s?

It was some how funny that on Sunday, at Salisbury, SWT had about 10 159s, most of them refurbs, sitting about in the depot enjoying some spring sunshire, and our train comes in, a packed 2-car 158 with no AC! Who says they favour London. ;)

John

PS You can tell the unit in the first pic is originally 450015 as the nameplate is too short for it to be 450042s and to small to be 450114s. How sad LOL.

the last time I rode on a 455 I had the roughest ride I've ever had the misfortune to experience.

Power take up: BANG!!!

They are more plastic inside than 450s, and the front end looks like something that should really be tunnelling beneath Manhatten on the subway :)

To be honest, although I would rather have a slam door unit on the Addlestone branch, I do think 450s are quite nice looking units, despite being like ovens. 444s to me just look...odd, maybe its the white livery? I don't really know, they just look wrong!

on the subject of the EEEeeeEEEeeeEEE noise, what is it? 960012 theorised it was the AC motors running on DC (or vice versa I'm not sure which way round). I know some motor control gear can cause a whining sound like that, I built a speed controller (obviously un-comparable to a units control gear) that did exactly that, but that was running on DC.

anyone know?

Can I add another option for the "445's". How about "Non-Existent"?

Oh of course!! We have all heard of a *445* I think! Is that a bad Siemens Desiro disaster!! With No air con of course ;) I mean 158's are worse for Working Air Con but 445's, well they are just appalling!!

Believe a 445 is either a 2PEP or 4PEP, prototype units for the 313/314/315/507/508 series of units.

447 however, could be a 10-car Weymouth line unit... with good buffet.

Fred, you know not all units are identical in characteristic don't you? just because one crashed through every piece of pointwork with me on it doesn't mean they are all terrible. This one was just incredibly s****t (it was a refurb btw), I'm sure there are some 455s around that are "ok". I occasionally wonder which 455 it was I slid down on a streak of a drunkards vomit. If it wasn't for the vomit it would have been an ok trip.

but the 450s are better...and thats saying something.

Sounds about right to me. The original post had purpose! ;)

Then soon after became a competition to prove you wrong and then about Desiros. What can you talk about 999 450s if its not real? ;)
