ERTMS on the Cambrian

Thanks to everyone who has written about our recent item featuring the Class 97/3 locomotives on the Cambrian Coast line. Contrary to our comment in the last issue, it is not yet strictly 'ERTMS testing' which is currently taking place, but rather train crew familiarisation with the line. A pair of Mk 2 coaches, known to local railfans by Awdry-esque names 'Annie' and 'Clarabel' have now appeared on the scene, recognisable by the dark grey paint around the end doors of one of them (see picture on Richard Jones' website) although by the end of June they had only been seen on the Shrewsbury - Aberystwyth section. As far as we know, the only traction unit currently fitted with the new signalling equipment is railcar 158 829.
