97301 on a low loader

I understand that 97301 was spotted on a low loader on the A60 going through Nottingham today, any idea where it was headed please?

I believe either to Eastcroft or Derby RTC to donate its power unit to 97303.

It’s already donated it’s bits, now going to peak rail for storage whilst a decision is made on its future.

Given its one of only 3 class 37 which is fitted with the ETCS system I imagine they should try procure a new engine.

Got quite the shock when this went past me in Chesterfield today. It was going towards Baslow/Bakewell around 4.30pm

None of the 37s with Hitachi ETCS (97301, 37668, 37669) have seen it used in anger. All have had their ETCS isolated.

Sounds like time up for 37100. A familiar sight in the north east while allocated to GD in the 80s.

It's got Hitatchi ETCS which is different to the ETCS that 302 to 304 have.

97301 is at Peak Rail, Rowsley - stored without diesel engine

Explains why I’ve not seen a 97/3 for a while.

Re-engine an option?

After they’re great versatile locos but the power units aren’t going to last forever

There was a Class 38 design done with an EMD engine in a 37.
Never really went anywhere though and their duties nowerdays can be done by the HST power cars at Colas

37198 was used for spares for the other 4 Network Rail class 37, presumably it's power unit is either defective or had been used already hence why Network Rail were happy to donate it to the Museum it is currently at where it is on static display

Only if the Hitachi ETCS OBU (onboard unit) on 97301 and 37668/669 is updated and fully recommissioned.

My understanding is it has been purchased privately by someone who already owns other class 37s. I haven't seen it confirmed what the plans are for it though

According to RAIL magazine (issue 942, page 13), 97301 has been purchased by Steve Beniston and moved to Kinsley.
