Were these donor locos for the rebuilds or will they one day be back in service?

I mentioned in the Worksop thread that 92 040 has been out of traffic for many years. I suggest the mid to late 90s. I can remember when rail magazine used to list locos undergoing maintenance and I noticed that month after month 92 040 was listed as undergoing special tests at crewe electric depot. I don't recall it ever running again after this.
I've seen a suggestion that it's been out of use since April 2001 but I reckon it was a few years earlier.
Be nice to get a definite answer, it could be one of the least used locos ever

Its last working appears to have been a railtour on 21/04/01. It ran light engine from Crewe ETD to Nuneaton to work 1Z39 "The Nene Navigator" from Nuneaton to Preston (apparently came off early at Crewe), then light engine back to Crewe ETD. I think its only move after that was to Loughborough. https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/00s/010421pt.htm

All too soon we were back at Nuneaton where 92040 was already in waiting for us. Another winner - and a rare one at that as it is one of the EPS 92's which were going into store the very next day, pending sale

A picture on flickr shows this working at Stafford, and mentions a storage date of May 2001 for the Eurostar 92s, which also fits in with this being its last working: https://www.flickr.com/photos/gbrailphotos/8750512582/

Thanks for that, at least it had a little bit more use than I thought.
Very rare one for haulage for the lucky few on that rail tour

It’s always fascinated me 92040.

It hardly turned a wheel for whatever reason from 1997-ish to 2001? Apparently serious derailment damage?

Then was stored again in 2001 with the other EPS 92’s but there must be more to it than meets the eye, why it never saw a return? A rogue 92, with too many faults?!

There are a few 92s that did only do the one tour 001 just did that o e Crewe-Carlise bit and now its i Europe so that chances are thats it and not that many of the DB ones work atm so to get them all now might be very difficult
