Witnessed the naming ceremony for 91130 at Newcastle Central Station at midday today. It now carries "Lord Mayor of Newcastle" titles with the smaller legend "Proudly celebrating 800 years of Newcastle's Mayoralty 1216-2016" below.

The event was hosted by Olympian triple jumper Jonathan Edwards, with contributions from Virgin East Coast's chief, the leader of Newcastle City Council and the Central Station chaplain. The formal unveiling was performed by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle.

Photos to follow.

What a disgraceful state that loco is in for a naming. Could have at least made an effort to clean it...

Gone are the days when a loco would be properly prepared and 'blinged' for a naming ceremony it seems. :(

That's exactly the thought that struck me on seeing the photo above. They could have done with tarting up the front end a bit, or at least, you know, given it a wash.

Like theblackwatch, I remember when the paintwork on a loco would be freshly applied and gleaming for a naming ceremony.

It turned up at Platform 2 on time but the Virgin PR guys and their hi-viz clad helpers weren't quite ready to put the curtain in place. So a small throng of enthusiasts started snapping away before politely being asked to move out of the way so it could be shifted.

I agree though, the 91 could have been spruced up a little bit.
