According to Rail 743, DB have re-instated 90 037 after several years in store and it is for the DRS contract ( along with 90 034 ); does this mean it is likely to turn up on the Pretendolino before long?

It's one of only two 90s I haven't had the haulage for, the other being 90 m040. Rather ironically the last time I saw both was top and tailed on a Birmingham - Manchester very shortly before they were stored and I was on the wrong bleedin' platform and couldn't react in time...!!!

The pretendolino always has the same 90 on it, and it sits in the yard/shed with the loco on (which is abnormal, as DBS normally make the drivers move their locos on the sleepers back to the DBS yard) so I doubt they will be swapping the loco? 90 020 is what is normally on it.

Do they only have one mk3 set?

One Mk3 set, but it's theoretically 90 034 that's supposed to be on it even though the reality has been different so far!

I'm sure the 90 will be swapping around occasionally. It will need maintenance from time to time.

To be fair, it spends more time in the maintenance sheds than it does out on the mainline at the minute! It gets moved into there every day. But although, I don't think ALSTOM are allowed to service the loco, May be wrong of course!

When is the 'full time' service meant to start?

Quite sure that the loco on the "Pretendolino" will need to go back to Crewe for maintenance. I am not sure how the maintenance cycle is worked out for a class 90 these days but would guess that the one on hire to DRS would not need to be swapped out that frequently as it does not do the mileage that the ones on the sleepers do.

"carriageline", the sleeper class 90s are taken to the freight yard during the day so that the DBS fitters can check them over if needed.

Also, DBS kicked off as they were being used to shunt things around Alstoms yard. ALSTOM did use to look after them (service etc), but DBS stopped paying, and don't like them being used by ALSTOMs yard drivers!

According to Modern Railways, a second DB Schenker loco will stand in for 90034 once every 30 days while it undergoes maintenance.

I wasn't aware that the service was planned to be stepped up beyond the current Thursday and Friday workings? Certainly, the articles in the railway press haven't suggested such a change.
