89001's Future

It's been mentioned on here before that funds raised by the ACLG's contract with Serco for the Caley Sleeper will be used to restore other locos in the custody of the ACLG, including 89001.

In this month's Railways Illustrated, a section of the rumour column (which admittedly does come with a note advising against taking anything as fact) states the following:

And the news that 89001 is being prepared for main line registration will undoubtably cause some to fall off the end of the platform with their knowledge of what it will be doing.

What's this referring to? I'd always assumed that if it returned to the main line, it'd either go on hire to East Coast as a spare loco, run some charters or join the 86s and 87 as backup for the Scotrail contract - none of which are particularly surprising or shocking.

I know it can be like that but I was flicking back through some old issues recently and with hindsight more of it was accurate than expected.

Was just wondering if anyone had it lined up for a hire contract or anything like that!

people will be frothing becasue she;s a 6000 hp loco with an ETH of 95 ... and the ACLG is involved in supporting the sleeper with the hire of the 86 and 87 ...
