86's & 87 at Willesden Depot

This morning I went to the above depot for any 86's & 87, I took these shots which 87 002 was the most difficult to get due to the wires etc & being at the far end, I did not see 86 101. Class 86 "Les Ross" was inside next to an 08:

86 701
86 401
86 213
86 259

87 002

Has there been a decision on the loco's apart from "Les Ross", scrap for spares or send to Europe..?

AFAIK none are going to a foreign country or being scrapped.

86701 is owned by or possibly on loan to Colas Rail (hence the livery), 86213, 86401 and 87002 are owned by the AC Locomotive Group and, as far as I know, Les Ross owns Les Ross

The hire to Colas was a one-off and 86701 has now been handed back to Europhoenix (its owners). The other 3 are poteotially up for disposal/export/scrap - see http://www.electric-traction.co.uk/news.php

Good photos there, Id rather see them exported than scrapped at least they will stay in use but hopefully they will stay in this country.

More lines are having overhead wires added, why can't the 86's & 87 be used on the Southern region / Great Western network.

Modern units trounce them in terms of performance, probably reliability and certainly top speed (GWML is 125mph in quite a few places and 87s top out at 110mph). Further there probably isn't enough 86/87s left to run an effective service.

I know its an 09 because as a driver who frequents such establishments i saw them when they were rebuilding it. Before it was that lovely shade of green it was a rather shabby Mainline blue..

The fleet is so small, and so the cost is not justifiable to keep them in mainline use. ETL own (86/87 wise),
86101/213/401/424, 87002
Of those, 86424 has given up its bogies to 86401 and is in store at Long Marston.
Other 86s around include 86228/229/231/234/235/242/246/251 owned by Europhoenix and in store at Long Marston with most likely to go to Hungary. 86247, a spares donor for Freightliner. 86259, owned by Les Ross, 86701/702 in store at Willesden and Ilford respectively, both owned by Europhoenix (likely bound for export) and 86901/902, which are both owned by Network Rail and stored, away from OHLE at Derby RTC. Then you have the FLR fleet of 86501 and many 86/6s which are for now to be keep running up the WCML and into Scotland and Greater Anglia.
So theoretically, an 86/87 fleet for future electrification schemes of 86101/213/401, 87002 is not really viable. Especially with age and the price of spares.

That'll be 09007, nice to see it when it's out and about but following the demise of Cargo-D it dosen't see much use

Who told you that?

It's no secret that it has no GSMR and is therefore pretty much as good as a chocolate tea pot.

At this stage a FINAL decision has not been made. But the lack of work remains an issue, and something has to pay the bills. It's very simple. Add to that, 86101 now has a very very large repair bill.

Thanks for the post yummy. I was there on the same day thinking the same thing. I've just started to reignite my love of trains after a 30 year gap. 87s were a particular favourite of mine so I was hopping of the seat of the London Overground train as it passed those locos, pulling into Willesden Junction. I came to post the same question so thanks for your lovely pics

I'll be passing Willesden Depot tomorrow morning on the way to Manchester, will try & get some new pic's but it depends on how fast the Pendo is going.
