The following comes from http://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/:

The only problem encountered over the weekend was a minor component fault on the return empty stock move on Sunday. A capacitor in the no.3 surge suppression unit developed a fault, emitting some smoke. Whilst it would have been possible to isolate no.3 motor and continue to Crewe, our support crew chose not to take any chances and called upon the 47 to take charge from Tebay, giving them chance to diagnose the problem. The faulty capacitor will be changed this week - a job that should take about an hour to complete.

In other words, it's only a flesh wound and it'll be back to biting your legs off in no time* ;)

Someone mentioned a loco hauled service with the Cargo-D rake, could be a great money maker for the ACLG...

Now that is interesting :)

Connected with the (albeit temporary) removal from traffic of another, similar rake, for a big exam?

Quite possibly, yes...

It's rather doubtful that 101 will be used. Unfortunately there is a long list of reasons why it is more sensible from a business perspective to remain with the current traction provider (or even take it in house using existing locos from the fleet).

Although, never say never!
