Fair enough. I've heard that the 222 terminated @ donny last week so the 170 finished from donny to hull.

The word from RAIL magazine a fortnight ago, was that HT were originally planning on using the 86 as planned, between Kings Cross and Doncaster, and then swap to a Pioneer, at Doncaster, for the rest of the journey, to Hull.

Where they would get the Pioneer from though, is anyones guess. (I doubt they would cancel the 17:06 Hull to London, just so it can form a Doncaster to Hull)

By having the 86, they can fill a Pioneer diagram with London - Doncaster, hence releasing it for Doncaster - Hull.

Who knows what's going to happen...it's all rumour after all! Personally, I can't see TPE 170s working to Kings Cross for a number of reasons. Firstly, catering would be impossible due to lack of buffet, which links into my second point. 2 170s would have to be used (ie 4 cars) in order to meet demand, which would prevent a trolley passing through, and I don't think that TPE can physically spare 2 units for what would basically be a semi-permanent basis.

TPE have been using 170s between Hull and Selby/Doncaster (the 15:18 off Hull was replaced by 2 170s between Hull and Selby on Friday), so I can see this continuing. This is the best option as catering isn't really essential on this part of the journey, and also means that TPE can share the units with Hull Trains. But the fact is that all the 222s are suffering exceptional wear at the moment (one unit had to be taken off to have work carried out to its wheels, causing the need for the 170s on Friday).

It would seem daft for the Mk3s and 86 not to be used, as presumably Hull Trains have been paying for the hire of the Mk3s, which have been sitting around doing nothing!
