80105 finale weekend at Bo'ness

So did anyone else go to this? I made it on Saturday, but not Sunday. I tried to be there to see it all kick off (shunting, loco getting ready etc.) but missed it all cause I slept in, and there was no diesel service, but had a great time none the less.

80105 was a great performer. Looked, sounded and smelled perfect.

I've always liked how Standard Class 4 Tanks looked in pictures, but in real life they're seriously impressive. Can't wait until her overhaul's up so I can get behind her again! Here's hoping she's back soon.

Glad it got back from Wensleydale ok! Didn't realise it was doing another run before it was taken out of use :)

For me, it was either this or last week's diesel gala. Surprisingly it wasn't an easy choice, but once again Steam captured my interest more than Diesel ever could.

Still wish I could've gone over to see the 303, though. That's the one I'm desperate to see as I had countless trips on them as a kid, and no doubt 303 032 (the unit at Bo'ness) played host to me a few billion times.

Not half as impressive as when you're standing on top of one of the side tanks* giving the top of the boiler a clean, believe me! It's far enough down to ground level to make not looking down a pretty good idea.

* 80104 at Swanage, in case you're wondering.

FWIW It's really easy to reach just about anywhere on a Standard 4 (the cab roof is the obvious exception) - they were so obviously designed with routine maintenance in mind. Great little engines.

The "Red one" is called "Leander". She was being stabled there between railtours.
