Hi an 8-car 455 went ecs through Southampton Central this afternoon any ideas? Was it visiting Bournemouth?

And I wish there was clear segregation of 444 and 450 duties ie 444 mostly on fast and 450 on stopper. It seems they mix them up all day long saw a Poole stopper 444 then later 450 whilst trains via Guildford stoppers can be both too!

What's funny is the 444 has so much more first class provision

455s run to/from Bournemouth regularly, there's a daily Q path (runs as required) in the system for them.

5B39 10+11 W’don Pk Depot 12+44 Bournemouth
5B40 14+32 Bournemouth 17+12 W’don Pk Depot

Seating has nearly identical ratios:

444 - 35F 299S so 10.4%

450 - 24F 233S so 9.3%

.

why all the way to Bournemouth?

I thought Bournemouth drastically downscaled since 442s were withdrawn

Thanks for the First/Standard seat ratios

Well it did, but it still stables a similar number of trains, and they still undertake some exams on other stock so there must be enough staff to do more than just the overnight basics.

Similar Q paths exist for transfers between Salisbury and Bournemouth, for 158s and 159s to visit, and of course 458s visit now and again too.

IIRC the 450/5 conversions were done at Bournemouth - although that could have involved Siemens as well, I'm not sure.

I've seen 444 set and a 450 set joined together at Waterloo and going in the Southampton/Weymouth direction.

Anyone got any pictures of the 455's travelling down that far?
