As my housemate is on holiday this week, I've been travelling from Frizinghall to Saltaire and back every day, which costs £2.50 for an anytime return ticket.

Having looked on the season ticket calculator, I can get a 7 day ticket for the journey for just £8.60, so a considerable saving! However, I don't have a photo card - Is this still required for a 7 day ticket and if so where do I actually acquire one (Also, does it expire once acquired?)

Thanks :)

You do need a photocard, no expiry date on mine (current one is about 15 years old) and they're available from any station ticket office (you'll need a passport sized photo of course).

London, Surrey... bit of a blur round here...

Would a photocard not be issued with the season ticket if it is required? I know with railcards they are unless you show you have a photocard with you at the time - last time I (was able to!) renewed my railcard, I didn't have the photocard with me (stupid oversight on my way into University to get my form signed!) and even though I said I had one I had to get a new one - I'm not complaining as it makes sense as after issue, I could then give the railcard to anybody!

TL;DR: My point is (after a bit of a meandering ramble) that surely the same would apply to season tickets, or any ticket type that requires a photocard?

Not all places where you can buy a weekly season ticket can also issue a photocard. Examples include ticket vending machines or train conductors (although I have heard some conductors carry a small number of blank photocards for the purpose).

I have a related question....

I have a annual season ticket, but I need to buy a weekly season ticket for a different route on a different TOC. Can I use the same photocard for both season tickets or will that cause any issues?

I would buy at the station and ask them, but the local station has limited opening hours so it would be easier for me to buy online and collect from the TVM.

Yes, you can use one photocard for multiple season tickets - I've done so myself. The same photocard number is simply put on both seasons.

Didn't occur to me that it wouldn't be possible, but then I currently use mine with 2 season tickets at the moment, soon to be 3

Many thanks. I was worried that there maybe some limitation is some backend system that assumed only 1 season ticket per photocard.

Shipley should be able to. Or either Bradford station if you venture into the city.

Possibly, if you buy two monthly or longer season tickets from the same TOC. But the TOCs' databases don't talk to one another and weekly season tickets don't go on any database.

Some of the pics you see are great:

Old boy, white hair, balding. Pics, some funky 70's pic with long hair
Older lady, aging gracefully. Pic: Young woman with big 80's hair.
Plus the odd old black and white, super stern old style passport pic.

On YP cards, young girls do like to go for the 'glamour' shots as well.

I do sometimes go: 'Love your picture'

It's a bit surprising they don't come with a 10 year validity.

I've spent hours tinkering with the camera gear at home just to avoid paying at a PhotoMe booth! But at least I ended up with a pic I could use on LinkedIn too.

I've only just thought of this now as I have to buy one for Monday, but I'm wondering if I can legally use a London Transport photocard with a seven-day Brighton to London Victoria season ticket?

I'm not 100% certain but I think I once asked at Brighton ticket office (while paying for a 1st class upgrade to be able to do some fiddly computer work on the journey, when upgrades were actually worth doing on the 442 trains; not so on the newer trains) and the ticket seller bloke said (I think) "As long as the number's the same as on the ticket and it's you on the photo, it should be fine".

I don't believe I've ever been asked to show my photocard on a train or at a ticket gate, but I'm wondering if having a London Transport one would be a legal issue if challenged by a particularly punctilious ticket inspector? (Even though this photocard would be valid with a season travelcard on the same train between e.g. East Croydon and Victoria). Would this render the season ticket invalid and mean I would therefore be committing a criminal offence of travelling without a valid ticket?

:-?

The ticket seller bloke is correct

But only for National Rail and LT photo cards, which are considered equivalent, isn't it?

Wasn't there a thread a year or two back where a bloke got into bother for using his photo card driving licence number (or something similar) on his 7 day season bought from a machine? I don't think that ended well...
