Out of curiosity are you planning on doing the seats on the Sleepers or getting a berth? You'll need to book a berth supplement if so (and I'd suggest booking in advance particularly on the Friday night).

Not sure yet - I think there is a supplement whether it's a berth or seat.

I'm fairly certain seats are included in the ALR but are subject to compulsory reservation (for which a ticket office will not usually charge) on the Caledonian Sleeper.

I think I would have to spend all week doing overnights to get 92s and 73s in the book.

Interspersed with 68s.

And then try and catch up on sleep!

Interesting thread. As my holiday plans completely messed up, am now seriously considering doing a simulataneous/consecutive 4 in 8 North West and 4 in 8 Freedom of Scotland, should we be allowed out to play before the nights draw in too much in October.

c £230 for 8 days unlimited travel across half of Britain including some buses, ferries, subway, trams... ...

Anyway, anypone ever tried to use such a combination for a Preston-Inverness or Fort William move on the sleeper (and return). How would it work in relation to time restrictions and dates of validity?

The northbound Highlander leaves Preston after midnight, so you would have to use Day 1 of both tickets to travel on it. Doesn't sound like good use of 2 rovers, to be honest.

Would also need to be a Friday Night/Saturday Morning due to the Not Valid before 0900 Restriction.

The Preston to Inverness sleeper does not call at Carlisle so your north west rover would not be valid on it
The Inverness sleeper does not call at Edinburgh either so the Spirit Of Scotland would not be valid on it.
It would be valid on the Fort William sleeper but again your north west rover wouldn’t be.

The train doesn't need to stop at the splitting points if using a ranger/rover in connection with any other ticket so the above combination would be valid (north west as far as Carlisle and freedom of scotland from there).

In fact the Spirit Of Scotland ticket is not valid on the sleeper at all looking at the participating train companiesCrossCountry; TransPennine Express; ScotRail; Avanti West Coast; LNER.
