I've just been at Harringay by chance to see this rattle through - 66044 on the front followed by a number of wagons with a rogue 66 in the middle. Any ideas how that's come about?

Cheers
Dave

Not sure on this train, but some workings between Mendips and London run in this formation so that the train can be quickly split into two to serve different terminals.

Much appreciated. It was a toss up between that and a failure - the full train was quite long. Your explanation seems most likely!

There have been trials of (so called) Jumbo Freight trains of aggregate trains between various terminals including from the north.

Slightly pedantic, but the Mendip traffic doesn’t run with loco’s in the middle from the Quarries to London as they aren’t allowed to. They only run some trains from London back to the Quarries with loco’s in the middle of the train.

66090 was the other loco. In this instance it had failed on the previous nights 6L55 Tinsley to Acton at Sleaford, causing chaos to freight workings on 22/23 evening, eventually moved yesterday to Peterborough so they joined the two trains together.

090 rings a bell, although I was a smidge worse for wear...! I thought it was just your common garden 66 led freight, then suddenly a loco - hissing and spitting - cut through the "peaceful" clattering of wagons.

Thanks for info - most grateful!

Thanks, I didn't know that. Only ever seen the return empties formed like that and just assumed the same happens with loaded.
