When driving a Class 67/Mk4 DVT set from the DVT end (with the 67 pushing), the ammeter is only in the 67 cab. How does the driver know how quickly to notch up without seeing the ammeter reading, as to not overload the loco? Is it a case of just taking it easy and knowing which speeds are safe to open up further? Very specific, I know, but got me curious!

I've never driven a DVT of any mark so I'm happy to be put right, but as you can open up a 67 from off to full power as gently as you want or simply slap it straight to full power and let it do its own thing I'm assuming you can control the DVT in the same manner, surely the 67 will only provide the power that is available whether it's pulling or pushing
