On a train...somewhere!
Tornado is going on display in the NRM's Great Hall today until the 11th of January. I aim to post a few pictures of her in the newly varnished paint job later on today.

At the moment the Dinner train has been announced as Guildford and the lunch train as TBA which could be round Kent.

The route of the lunch tour is Victoria-Staines-Newbury-Trowbridge-Swindon-Staines-Victoria, which should please heart-of-wessex as it's passing through/stopping at Trowbridge

What date is that on? Extremely tempted to go out and get footage of her.

If thats where it be then I might go too Newbury as Tangmere will be passing that way too 8-)

Though I thought they would do Kent as they have to be back for dinner train.:???:

I should think it will get back before the dinner train. Otherwise they wouldn't of announced the lunch train going down to Trowbridge. I expect there's quite a few other routes (excluding Kent) that the lunch tour could've taken.

Excellent stuff, may go down there for footage of it through Melksham or something.

34067 Tangmere will also be in the area (sought of) on the same day. It's working Railway Touring Company Railtour from Paddington to Yeovil Junction via Reading, Newbury and Westbury. it then returns to Paddington via Templecombe, Salisbury and Reading.

35028 Clan Line is also out as well on a VSOE. However the route and destination hasn't yet been announced. If it's a Bath VSOE then there'll be three Steamers through Westbury on 14th Feb.

Just thought you might be interested :)

No there won't! Just realised that Tornado will avoid Westbury station as it takes the Trowbridge line at Westbury East Loop Junc therefore avoiding the station. D'oh.

In the poll I voted for WCML but I think it would be great to see her do the ECML.

A non-stop return blast from London - Edinburugh reaching maximum speeds for as much as the journey as possible. I think it would be a phenomenal experience for bystanders (think about the amount of people who adourned the platforms during her test runs) and passengers alike. Would generate greate publicity and be extremely newsworthy - reliving the old days of steam and promoting the railways.

Just checked UKSteam and it appears Tornado will not be going to Trowbridge on the 14th Feb. It will not be starting from Waterloo vice Victoria. The new route for the lunch tour that Tornado will be working on that day is:

Waterloo-Staines-Andover-Eastleigh-Staines-Waterloo

The evening/dinner tour remains unchanged.

Cheers for the info, any ideas of the times of the lunch tour as they are not yet posted on UKSteam.

Hi All,

As I was chatting to some people at the Canterbury Model railway show about 70004 William Shakespeare coming down Folkestone harbour they were saying that on 14 Feb Tornado is going to Canterbury West :???:
So I think its a wait and see where tornado goes on 14 feb 8-)

just a quick update now

ive just got in back to london after coming down on the big T (tornado) from darlington/york this morning, left ontime at 0745 and good run to york, we had some slow running now and again and then held at peteboroough due OHL probs,

im not doing back to the north as i live here and its diesel back anyway as big T is now in london til next sat at old oak common,

we arrived a bit late into kx due the overhead line problems (not us lol)

all went well then and once we got going again south and onto in bedfordshire we stormed down to london,
am sure you had some good vantage points,
the stations at st neots, hitchin, finsbury park etc were crammed !

kings cross was chaos hehe
and no doubt the tv news will have her on at 6pm

the police chopper in bedforshire and north london was keeping up with us, what fun for them

i will upload some videos after tea !
phew im knackered

I guessed there would be huge crowds all along ECML, at Bawtry there were about 50+, including Mr & Mrs Bickerstaff > who continually bickered right upto Tornado appearing !!<

Dont know how fast it was traveling but only slightly slower than the accompanying second video of the passing 125's. All the same was a nice morning if a bit ice-bound!!:P:roll:

Does anyone else have big doubts that the "big T" was actually built from scratch. I find it very hard to believe especially since the Flying Scot has not been seen for well a while i suspect some parts were used off that.
