On a train...somewhere!
60163 'Tornado' mad its final test run on the main-line running as 1Z45 York-Newcastle and the 1Z46 return. I believe the train was formed of a support coach, 8 or 9 Virgin Mk2's adn possibly a generator vehicle. 67028 was on the rear of the train. It passed Northallerton 7 minutes late at 19:36 and was running flat out!  :)

I wouldn't mind where it was. It's a beautiful loco to photograph, but I very much doubt it'll hit the WHL with it being RA9 ;)

Out of those rather limited choices, it would be on the ECML giving it all its got up the ECML. There's where I'd say it belongs.

There is also a rumour about it being on a Kent round trip, but not majorly sure yet.

At the moment the Dinner train has been announced as Guildford and the lunch train as TBA which could be round Kent. Also the VSOE is out on the same day too with Clan Line.

Out of those choices I would say the NYMR a fantastic railway with brilliant sceney and graidents it would just look nice

850 Lord Nelson is supposed to be out on the same day too, departing from Paddington and going down to Yeovil.

I would most like to phot Tornado on one of the lines leading into Hastings, although I very much doubt it would happen. Out of the places on the list, it would probably be the ECML or NYMR.

Oh she working now then

Nelson has been running for a while now since being repaired where it's seen use at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway and the Great Central Railway (Loughborough). It was supposed to be back on the mainline and being used on tours now, but the tours involved have either been postponed, cancelled or replaced with another steam locos.

We should be seeing a lot more of Lord Nelson in the South East area next year. The National Railway Museum is discussing a new operating agreement for Nelson with the Mid Hants Railway and Eastleigh Railway Preservation Society which will see the loco based at the MHR and operating on both the Watercress Line and Mainline, jointly by the ERPS and the MHR.

Tornado won't be on the VSOE on the 14th Feb. 35028 is on it, the route/destination of which has yet to be announced. Same day, 60163 is on two Steam Dreams' Circular runs using West Coast's Green Train set of coaches. The route/destination of the first run (the lunch tour) has yet to be announced and I believe it's sold out. The second run, the dinner tour, is Victoria-Guildford-Victoria.

What livery will be used for Tonado when she officially enters mainline use? This bloody grey colour looks daft (almost American!).

Would love to see her in all black (although I know this is v.unlikeley!)

She should be fully varnished and in the great hall (hopefully on the turntable) next Monday according to the local news. I'm definately going to make the trip and get some snaps before the 30th/31st January.
