Does anybody know whether the card can be used after midnight on weekdays? I'm just curious to know at what time the software "locks" this card as it cannot be used before 9am. I'm guessing that this time for TfL will be different from Southern/Thameslink. Question is relevant for (a) trains from Coulsdon South towards London and (b) buses/trams/underground. Thanks.

I would assume it can be used until end of service (or until 4 am on night buses/Thameslink). I'm almost certain you would be able to use it on the 12:04 or 12.42 from Coulsdon South and on night buses at 1, 2 am. Daily caps, for example, run from 4.01 am on the day in question to 4.00 am the next morning.

In most cases, the 'end of day' on the railways is at 04:30. London Underground / buses certainly use that cut-off time.

https://londoncouncils.gov.uk/services/freedom-pass/using-pass has the following information in the "buses" section:
  • From Monday 15 June 2020, changes to the ticketing system mean Older Person’s Freedom Pass and 60+ cards are automatically set not to be valid during the morning peak period (0430 to 0900) Monday to Friday.
